Softball Game of the Day: Megan Sneedan’s grand-slam single gives Nyack the 7-6 win; more games

Not only did the lovely Nancy Haggerty covered Somers/Brewster softball; but I wrote a separate game of the day and the Yonkers/Nyack game stood out too.

After losing the lead in the top of the seventh, Nyack came from behind to defeat visiting Yonkers 7-6 Tuesday at the Upper Nyack Elementary School.

With one out in the bottom of the seventh and the Indians trailing 6-4 Frannie Maldonado hit a single. She moved to second on a groundout. With two outs, Savannah Androseo delivered a single. Kelli O’Shea followed with a single to load the bases up. Alyssa Sullivan walked to cut the deficit to 6-5. Winning pitcher Michaela Contreras hit a single to drive in the tying run. And Megan Sneeden followed with a grand slam to win it.

However, all that was needed was one run so the grand slam turned into a single.

“With all the injuries and players having to play new positions, I was pleased at how well they’ve stepped up,” Indians coach Stephanie Ryan said. “I hope this win proves if you want it and play your ‘A’ game, you can beat anyone.”

Sneeden was 3 for 4 with a triple and an RBI for the Indians.

Kayla Burke and Brittany Gonzalez each had two RBI for the Bulldogs.
